Moushumi Chatterjee, known for her timeless performances in Bollywood and Bengali cinema is all set to make a comeback into acting after a 12-year break. The veteran actress will be reportedly sharing screen space with Nusrat Jahan in an upcoming film.
According to a media report, Moushumi Chatterjee will be featuring alongside renowned actor Nusrat Jahan in the Bengali film Aari. Reportedly, Nusrat’s husband Yash Dasgupta will be playing a lead like in the film. For the unversed, Nusrat Jahan who predominantly works in Bengali cinema, made her debut in Shotru in 2011. She is best known for her films- Khokha 420, Har Har Byomkesh, One and Bolo Dugga Maiki among others.
Moushumi Chatterjee has predominantly worked in Hindi and Bengali films. She made her film debut as a child artist in the Bengali film Balika Vadhu in 1967 and was helmed by Tarun Majumdar. She then later made her debut as the leading lady in the Hindi film Anuraag in 1972 was directed by Shakti Samanta.
Apart from Balika Badhu (1967) her Bengali films as lead heroine include Parineeta (1969), Anindita (1972), Anand Ashram (1977), Ogu Bodhu Sundari (1981), Prarthana (1984), Shatarupa (1989) and Kari Diye Kinlam (1989) among others.
Moushumi has worked in films which turned out to be commercial success including- Roti, Kapda Aur Makan, Humshakal, Benaam, Badla, Raftaar, Natak, Jai Bajrang Bali, Ab Kya Yoga, Hatyara and Tuhmari Kasam among others.
Apart from films, she has even worked in TV shows- Albeli, Super Dancer, India’s Best Dancer. The veteran actress has bagged several accolades including Bengal Film Journalists’ Association, Filmfare Awards, Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Awards and Bengal Film Journalists Association Awards.
Moushumi got married to Jayant Mukherjee, the son of legendary music director Hemant Kumar. Jayanta is also an exponent of Rabindra Sangeet. The couple has two daughters. Her daughter, Payal who was suffering from Type 1 diabetes, passed away on December 13, 2019.
