India pacer Mohammed Shami has once again found his personal life under the spotlight. Shami married Hasin Jahan in 2014, but the couple began living separately four years later. Over the years, Jahan has publicly accused Shami and his family of both mental and physical harassment. Earlier this month, she even alleged that Shami prioritizes the children of his girlfriends, showering them with gifts while allegedly neglecting his own daughter, Ayra. In a recent interview with News 24, Shami opened up about his personal life, choosing to avoid dwelling on past controversies. “Leave that. I never regret the past. What’s gone is gone. I don’t want to blame anyone, including myself. I want to focus on my cricket. I don’t need these controversies,” he said. Shami is not the only Indian cricketer to have experienced marital turbulence. Former India batter Shikhar Dhawan divorced Ayesha Mukherjee, while spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma also parted ways this year. When asked about these disputes, Shami said, “That’s your job to investigate. Why do you want to hang us to death? Look at the other side as well. I focus on cricket, not controversies.” On the field, Shami has returned to competitive cricket, representing East Zone in the ongoing Duleep Trophy. On Day 1 against North Zone in Bengaluru, he bowled 17 overs, finishing with figures of 1 for 55. Shami’s recent performances in the IPL and international cricket have been modest. His last competitive game was on May 2, when he played for Sunrisers Hyderabad, conceding 48 runs in three overs without picking up a wicket against Gujarat Titans. The 2025 IPL season saw him claim just six wickets in nine matches. He also missed India’s Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test series in England and has not been selected for the Asia Cup in September, with his last appearance for India coming in the ICC Champions Trophy in March.
