Sarfaraz Khan, a 27-year-old middle-order batter with 371 runs in six Test matches for India, displayed his skills by scoring a century for Mumbai in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament on Monday.Playing under captain Ayush Mhatre against TNCA XI at Gojan Cricket Ground B, Sarfaraz batted at number 5 position and scored an impressive 138 runs from 114 balls before retiring hurt.His innings was highlighted by 10 fours and six sixes. SUBSCRIBE NOW!He formed crucial partnerships, including a 72-run stand for the fourth wicket with Suved Parkar, who contributed 72 runs from 121 balls, and another substantial partnership exceeding 100 runs for the sixth wicket with Aakash Parkar.Sarfaraz’s Test career began impressively with two fifties on his debut against England in Rajkot last year. He followed this with a remarkable 150 in the second innings of the Bengaluru Test against New Zealand in November 2024.Despite his strong performance record, Sarfaraz was not selected for India’s five-match Test series in England. The selectors opted for Karun Nair instead in the series opener against England.Sarfaraz has maintained an impressive batting average of 65.98 in first-class cricket. He has recently focused on improving his fitness, and his century in this tournament strengthens his case for selection in India’s upcoming home series.India are scheduled to play against the West Indies from October 2 to 14, with matches in Ahmedabad and Delhi. This will be followed by two Tests against South Africa in Kolkata from November 14-18 and in Guwahati from November 22-26.Following his participation in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament, Sarfaraz will join the West Zone team for the Duleep Trophy. The 2025 Duleep Trophy is scheduled from August 28 to September 11.Sarfaraz will play under Shardul Thakur’s leadership in the Duleep Trophy. The West Zone squad also includes notable players Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer.
