L2 Empuraan: Gokulam Gopalan Emerges As Knight In Shining Armour, Comes Onboard As Producer After Lyca Production Debacle

Mohanlal’s much anticipated film L2 Empuraan’s release is just few days away. But, prior to this, it had to face an obstacle due to clash between production houses. Due to which rumours of film getting postponed surfaced. In the latest development seems like the issue has been resolved.

As per a viral post on X by a user named AB George, “INDUSTRY-BREAKING NEWS — #Empuraan issues have been fully resolved – it’s Aashirvad Cinemas, Lyca, Gokulam Movies production. Market leader Gokulam Gopalan Sir has extended his support to the biggest Malayalam film without any conditions. Gokulam Movies will now take over all the rights from Lyca, ensuring a smooth global release for #L2E, a.k.a. #Empuraan “.

The post further read, “The strong relationship between Aashirvad Cinemas, Antony Perumbavoor, Lyca, and Gokulam Gopalan helped resolve the issue at the last moment. #Empuraan entire Worldwide release through Aashirvad Cinemas’ Antony Perumbavoor through its traditional distributors. So as of now it’s a Aashirvad Cinemas – Lyca – Gokulam Movies production venture. An official announcement will be there.”

Still the post left netizens scratching their heads and viewed their opinion, while some questioned. One user wrote, “If Gokulam Movies has bought rights from Lyca, then how it’s a Aashirvad- ‘Lyca’-Gokulam venture? It should be Aashirvad-Gokulam venture right? Please clarify. #Empuraan #Mohanlal”. Another user wrote, “’Gokulam Movies takes over all the Lyca Rights. ‘Then how will it be Aashirvad Cinemas – Lyca – Gokulam Movies”. “Is this stalemate the reason behind no marketing activity or promotional events”, wrote the third user.

There were reports that the movie which has been in post production stage was reportedly getting delayed due to which it  put on financial strain on Lyca Productions. There were other reports that Mohanlal led Aashirvad Cinemas was also considering removing Lyca Productions and release the movie independently.

In the second installment of the action franchise, Mohanlal reprises his role of Stephen Nedumpally aka Khureshi-Ab’raam. L2 Empuraan, a sequel to Sukumaran’s 2019 release Lucifer which also starred Mohanlal, is produced by Lyca Productions and Aashirvad Cinemas.

Sukumaran also features in L2 Empuraan alongside Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Saniya Iyappan and Arjun Das. The film will release in theatres on March 27, 2025, in Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.
