Karoline Leavitt says the press secretary role was obviously not for Katie Zacharia

Karoline Leavitt said the job that she left was obviously not meant for Katie Zacharia who had to leave the role in five says because it is a tough job. “Look, White House press secretary is a tough job. I know that because I did it,” Leavitt said in a Thursday interview with Fox News Digital.“Many people say it’s one of the hardest jobs in politics. It takes a lot of preparation. Sometimes you don’t know how someone will perform until they go out there,” she said. “As the president said, we wish Katie the best. The job obviously was not for her.”Leavitt said she had been advising the president in his search for Zacharia’s replacement and outlined the five qualities a press secretary needs: tough, smart, loyal, who understands Trump’s policies, and who can put up a fight.“I do obviously talk to him about what the job entails, and he knows it very well. Nobody understands the press better than Donald Trump. He knows that he needs someone who is tough, who is smart, who understands his policies, who is loyal and can go out there and put up a fight,” she said.Leavitt left the role after the birth of her second child though she is not taking a break from work at all. From November 1, she would be joining Fox News as an on-air contributor, providing political analysis and commentary.Leavitt served as President Donald Trump’s first press secretary during his second term and made a record as the youngest person in the role. She said she used to prepare a lot before her press conferences, and especially for her first press conference. “I poured myself into my preparation. I read, I studied, I talked to every Cabinet member, I talked to the president. I just absorbed as much information as this noggin up here could,” Leavitt said. While Zacharia’s first press conference was widely panned as unimpressive, the nail in the coffin was the credibility of her degree. For years, she called herself a lawyer but it came to light that she never cleared bar exam and she never practised law.
