Kapil Sharma’s Canada café vows to fight on after gunfire attack

Comedian Kapil Sharma’s Canadian venture, Kap’s Cafe, shared an emotional statement after a terrifying firing incident shook the team on late Thursday evening. The café which is located in Surrey, British Columbia, came under attack by unidentified gunmen late at night. In a heartfelt Instagram post, the staff expressed their shock and sorrow for the recent incident that took place, but also their unwavering resolve to stand strong. Despite the fear and uncertainty, they pledged to continue fostering peace, warmth, and community — the very values on which the café was built.

“We opened Kap’s Cafe with hopes of bringing warmth, community and joy through delicious coffee and friendly conversations. To have violence intersect with that dream is heartbreaking. We are processing this shock but we are not giving up,” the statement read. The post conveyed the emotional toll the incident has taken on the staff and owners, while emphasising their resolve to continue building a space of togetherness and positivity. The cafe made it clear that it would not be intimidated by violence.

A Khalistani terrorist, Harjeet Singh Laddi, allegedly took credit for the shooting shortly after it occurred. Harjeet Singh Laddi, who is on India’s National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) most-wanted terrorist list, is associated with the outlawed group Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), which is notorious gang for its violent and separatist goals. Kap’s Cafe expressed its sincere gratitude to its customers and supporters for their outpouring of love and support despite the upsetting development.

“Your faith in what we’re creating together is the reason this cafe exists. “Let’s maintain our stance against violence and make sure Kap’s Cafe continues to be a welcoming and community-focused space,” the team continued in their statement. The incident has sparked growing concern over the safety of Indian-owned businesses in the area, leaving the Indo-Canadian community deeply unsettled. For many, Kap’s Cafe has come to symbolise more than just a place to grab a coffee. As the investigation further takes place, the café’s strength and spirit continue to inspire those around it.
