IPL 2026: Pat Cummins to lead Sunrisers Hyderabad for 3rd consecutive season

NEW DELHI: Australia’s premier fast bowler Pat Cummins has been retained as captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad for the third consecutive IPL season.The franchise confirmed Cummins’ role through a post on its ‘X’ handle, sharing images of the fast bowler but not revealing further details.

Cummins has been officially ruled out of the first Ashes Test in Perth owing to a back injury, though he is expected to return in time for the second match in Brisbane.

In his absence, Steven Smith will lead Australia in the Ashes opener, which begins on November 21, while the second Test starts on December 4 in Brisbane.

Cummins was appointed SRH captain ahead of IPL 2024, taking over from South Africa’s Aiden Markram after the Australian was signed for a massive Rs 20.50 crore at the 2024 auction, following his success in the World Test Championship and the 2023 ODI World Cup triumph.Before joining SRH, Cummins featured in the IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals.
