iOS 18.4 Will Bring iPhone 16’s Best AI Feature to Old iPhones

Apple ’s latest beta version for iOS 18.4 — the next major iPhone software version — has just come out, bringing a horde of new features. While most features are meant for the iPhone 16 series, including the latest iPhone 16e, iOS 18.4 beta 2 expands Apple Intelligence’s best feature to old iPhones. It brings Visual Intelligence to 2023’s iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models.

When Visual Intelligence was first rolled out last year, optimised for the Camera Control button on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro lineups. However, the feature was rolled out to the recently launched iPhone 16e without Camera Control. The second beta of iOS 18.4 adds Visual Intelligence to the iPhone 15 Pro series, which also lacks Camera Control. These iPhone devices support Visual Intelligence through the Action Button and a dedicated toggle in the Control Centre.

The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max have supported every Apple Intelligence feature since it arrived as part of iOS 18.1 in October. Visual Intelligence, however, has so far been unavailable even in beta versions.

A part of Apple Intelligence services, Visual Intelligence, allows users to point their iPhone camera to anything and ask contextual questions. For instance, a user could summon Visual Intelligence on their iPhone and point the camera at a dish to ask about its calorie and nutrition information. It integrates ChatGPT, as well as Google Image Search, to offer results based on questions.

Expected to roll out in April, iOS 18.4 will bring the next wave of Apple Intelligence features. It will put the spotlight on iPhone users in India, expanding the service to support more languages, including Indian English. The next iOS 18 update will also pack better support for more Indian languages, such as Bangla, Urdu, and Gujarati for system-wide navigation.
