India’s software exports surge 21.5 per cent to Rs 7.73 lakh crore in FY26


Karnataka leads India’s STP exports, while total investment in Software Technology Park units declines for the third consecutive year

India’s Software Technology Park (STP) units recorded estimated exports worth Rs 7.73 lakh crore in FY 2025-26, marking a sharp 21.56 per cent increase from Rs 6.36 lakh crore in FY 2023-24, according to data shared by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

The data highlights continued momentum in India’s software and IT-enabled services (IT/ITeS) exports, even as investment by STP units declined during the same period.

Exports from STP units rose from Rs 6,36,619.87 crore in FY24 to Rs 6,88,194.11 crore in FY25 before climbing further to Rs 7,73,898.97 crore in FY26.

The Software Technology Park Scheme is a 100 per cent export-orientated government initiative aimed at promoting software and IT-enabled services exports from India. The Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) also provides statutory services through a single-window clearance mechanism under the scheme.

Investment declines despite export growth

While exports continued to rise, investment reported by STP units moved in the opposite direction. Total investment fell from Rs 10,709.92 crore in FY24 to Rs 8,870.78 crore in FY25 and further to Rs 7,362.86 crore in FY26.

Imports by STP units, meanwhile, remained broadly stable. Imports stood at Rs 9,947.47 crore in FY24, declined to Rs 9,482.27 crore in FY25 and increased marginally to Rs 9,960.26 crore in FY26.

The number of STP units rises

The number of STP units registered with STPI increased to 2,125 in FY26, compared with 2,059 in FY24. The number had dipped marginally to 2,042 in FY25 before recovering in FY26.

Karnataka and Tamil Nadu led the country with 391 STP units each, followed by Maharashtra with 367 units and Telangana with 280 units.

Karnataka dominates STP exports

Karnataka remained the biggest contributor to exports from STP units, with exports of Rs 3,50,184.78 crore over the three-year period covered by the data.

Maharashtra followed with Rs 1,62,594.11 crore, while Telangana ranked third with Rs 1,13,101.83 crore.

The figures underline the continued dominance of India’s major technology hubs in driving software exports, with Karnataka accounting for the largest share among states.
