India’s Got Latent: Samay Raina hosted parody show India’s Got Latent has been in the news over some perverted comments and use of abusive language in an episode featuring Ranveer Allahbadia, Apoorva Mukhija, Jaspreet Singh and Ashish Chanchalani. Latent has been one of the most trending shows on YouTube since it was launched last year in June. Before the controversy caused a shutdown of the show, several contestants became quite popular after their acts and humour.
Sharon Verma, an aspiring stand-up comic and poet, performed her set on Samay’s show and got instant fame. Her “weak independent woman” tag for herself made her viral on YouTube. In the aftermath of her performance on Latent, Sharon from Bihar went on to perform more and also appeared on podcasts where she thanked the Latent platform for giving her the spotlight on social media.
Comedian and poet Keshav Jha floored everyone with his satirical lines and shayari on the show. He later featured in a music video, titled Baawe, alongside Samay, Badshah and Raftaar.
A writer and comedian by profession, Naman Arora featured in the fifth episode of India’s Got Latent and became famous overnight. He tickled the funny bones of the internet and the show judges so much so that Samay promised Naman that he would open for him in one of his upcoming shows.
Not a contestant, but Samay’s long-time collaborator Balraj Ghai also came into the spotlight after India’s Got Latent became bigger. Ghai and Samay have also been streaming chess on YouTube together but Ghai blew up after it became clear that Latent is being filmed at The Habitat, which is owned by him. Ghai became popular for being a “gentleman” on a show that is viral for insult comedy and parody.
Amin Khan is a bouncer who appeared on India’s Got Latent and became popular. As the curiosity surrounding the show grew, so did Amin’s popularity. One of the most streamed podcasts from those who are part of Latent is his.
Manmeet, who came back from Canada, featured in one of the early episodes of India’s Got Latent as a rapper. However, his bnater with Samay and other guests on the show went viral. Manmeet is now a part of Roadies Double Cross, where he is a part of Neha Dhupia’s gang.
Mimic Suryansh also became popular on Latent after his parody skit of Sanjay Dutt on the show went viral.
