Indian opener Abhishek Sharma is close to breaking multiple T20I records held by cricket stars Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Mohammed Rizwan as India prepares to face Pakistan in the Asia Cup final in Dubai on Sunday.Abhishek Sharma had garnered attention before the tournament due to his impressive performances in the Indian Premier League, where he formed a successful opening partnership with Travis Head for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

In the ongoing Asia Cup, Abhishek has scored 309 runs in six matches at an average of 51.50 and a strike rate of 204.63. He has hit three consecutive fifties during the Super Four stage, with his highest score being 75.He needs just 11 runs to surpass Virat Kohli’s record for most runs by an Indian in a multi-nation T20I tournament. Kohli had scored 319 runs with four fifties at an average of 106.33 during the 2014 T20 World Cup, earning him the Player of the Tournament award.Abhishek is also 23 runs away from breaking Phil Salt’s record for most runs by a player from a Test-playing nation in a T20I tournament. Salt had scored 331 runs in five T20Is against West Indies in 2023, including two centuries.With seven consecutive 30-plus scores, Abhishek has equaled the record held jointly by Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Rizwan. Another such score would establish a new record.His T20I performance in the current year has been remarkable, with 588 runs in 11 matches at an average of 53.45 and a strike rate of 211.51. These runs include one century and four fifties.Throughout his T20I career, Abhishek has accumulated 844 runs in 23 matches at an average of 38.36 and a strike rate of 197.65. His record includes two centuries and five fifties, with his highest score being 135.
