IND vs ENG: Indian team asked to stay indoors in Birmingham after security alert; second Test from tomorrow

TimesofIndia.com in Birmingham: The Indian cricket team, currently in Birmingham for the second of five Tests against England, had been asked to stay indoors following a security alert.In a social media post, the Birmingham City Centre Police said, “We’ve currently got a cordon in place around Centenary Square, #Birmingham city centre, while we investigate a suspicious package. We were alerted just before 3pm, and a number of buildings have been evacuated as a precaution while it’s assessed. Please avoid the area.”

SUBSCRIBE NOW!After the brief half-an-hour directive by the security unit and state police, the Indian team were allowed to venture out with normalcy restored in the team hotel and surrounding areas.The optional training session was attended by skipper Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav and members of the support staff.The second Test between India and England gets underway at Edgbaston on July 2. India trail the series 0-1 having lost the opener at Headingley in Leeds by 5-wickets.
