England batting coach Marcus Trescothick struck a calm note at the end of a fiery second day in the final Test at The Oval, brushing off concerns around a brief exchange between Joe Root and Prasidh Krishna. “There’s nothing serious to worry about,” Trescothick said. “Root just reacted differently in the moment. It’s all part of the game.” The day also saw a bit of drama when Indian pacer Akash Deep put an arm around Ben Duckett after dismissing him — a gesture that caught attention. Trescothick responded with a smile: “It was different… many during my time would have elbowed (laughs). But the game’s been played in really good spirit.” India clawed their way back into the match, dismissing England for 247 — a slim lead of just 23 runs — with Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj picking four wickets each. The hosts had threatened to run away with it after a blazing start but India’s pacers turned it around in the post-lunch session. Also Read: IND vs ENG 5th Test: Mohammed Siraj – The Last Man StandingIndia then lost KL Rahul early in their second innings before Yashasvi Jaiswal, dropped twice, counter-attacked with a 44-ball fifty that included a six to bring up the milestone. He was supported briefly by Sai Sudharsan, who too was dropped once before falling for 11. Chris Woakes was ruled out of the match with a shoulder injury, leaving England one bowler short. By stumps, India were 75-2 with a 52-run lead. With tempers flaring, catches going down, and both sides pushing hard, the final Test remains finely poised heading into Day 3.
