Important Freeview TV update confirmed that fixes ‘several issues’ – install it now

Anyone with the latest Freeview set-top box tucked under their TV would be wise to check the model number and install a new update without delay. The team at Manhattan has just confirmed the release of a software upgrade for its most recent T4•R devices, and owners would be wise to check that it’s been downloaded.

It’s called version 2.08 and it fixes a number of issues that could affect the viewing experience.

“This update focuses on stability and reliability,” Manhattan explained.

“We’ve resolved several issues that could cause the T4•R to reboot unexpectedly, particularly when navigating menus, playing recordings, or using on-demand services.”

It appears that these devices have been rebooting at random times, including when opening Recordings or quickly navigating the More Info screen. There have also been issues when repeatedly seeking on‑demand content in the BBC Sounds app.

This has all been rectified, but only once the patch is on the device. To install version 2.08, users must make sure their box is connected to the internet.

Manhattan says most T4•R models will update automatically overnight, but things can be done manually as well.

To update now, go to: Home → Settings → System → Software Updates → Check for Update Now.

Never heard of the Manhattan T4•R?

This Freeview box launched last year and offers a built-in hard drive for recording content – a bit like Sky Q.

There’s also the option to watch shows and movies in glorious 4K Ultra HD resolution

The device can tune into over 100 free channels, plus there are over 60,000 hours of on-demand shows to watch as well. It comes in three storage sizes, 500GB, 1TB and 2TB and starts from £169.99.
