Gold rush continues as Arundhati Choudhary wins India's fifth boxing gold at Commonwealth Games

India continued its strong run in boxing at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Saturday, winning five gold medals, with Arundhati Choudhary completing the tally after beating England’s Chantelle Reid in the women’s 70kg final.Arundhati defeated Reid by a unanimous 5-0 decision to give India its fifth boxing gold of the competition.Earlier in the day, Jaismine Lamboria, Preeti Pawar, Sakshi Chaudhary and Priya Ghanghas had also won gold medals in their respective categories, while Jadumani Singh settled for silver.Preeti opened India’s gold medal haul with a 5-0 win over Canada’s Scarlett Delgado in the women’s 54kg final.Reigning world champion Jaismine followed it up with another 5-0 victory against defending champion Michaela Walsh of Northern Ireland in the women’s 57kg final.Sakshi then defeated England’s Ruby White 5-0 in the women’s 51kg final to claim India’s third boxing gold of the day.Priya had a tougher contest but beat Canada’s Marie-Bathoul Al-Ahmadieh 4-1 by split decision in the women’s 60kg final.Jadumani missed out on gold after losing 0-5 to Australia’s Jye Dixon in the men’s 55kg final. The Indian boxer found it difficult against his taller opponent early in the bout but recovered to win the opening round 3-2.Dixon responded by taking the second round 5-0 and carried that momentum into the final round to secure the gold medal, ending India’s winning run in the ring.Jadumani had reached the final after defeating Namibia’s Philip Haoseb 5-0 in the semifinal on Friday.In the women’s finals, Jaismine won a closely fought opening round by split decision before taking control of the contest in the second round with a unanimous verdict after landing several clean punches.
