Gautam Gambhir set to rejoin Team India on June 17 in England

India head coach Gautam Gambhir, who had rushed back home due to a family medical emergency, is set to link up with the team in England on June 17. The first Test of the five-match Test series will start from June 20.Gambhir returned back home on June 12 as his mother suffered a heart attack on June 11. She was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a Delhi hospital where she received treatment.

While head coach Gautam Gambhir was away, India’s assistant coaches Sitanshu Kotak, Ryan ten Doeschate, and Morne Morkel took charge of the team for a four-day intra-squad game against India A in Beckenham.Gambhir, along with newly appointed captain Shubman Gill, was grappling with multiple selection dilemmas ahead of the five-Test series against England. The retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have left key vacancies in the batting line-up.There were also tough choices to be made in the bowling department, with one among Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna expected to be left out, in addition to a probable exclusion between allrounders Shardul Thakur and Nitish Reddy.The Indian team paid tribute to the victims of the Ahmedabad plane crash by donning black armbands and observing a minute’s silence on the first morning of the match.More to follow..
