Rakesh Roshan has often been trolled for choosing his son Hrithik Roshan in the Krrish franchise which started with Koi… Mil Gaya, followed by Krrish and Krrish 3. The filmmaker would be called out for repeating his son in all of the movies. For the unversed, Hrithik played the role of Rohit in the first instalment while in the next two parts, he played Rohit’s off-spiring. Now, Dabba Cartel actor Gajraj Rao has come out in defence of choosing Hrithik over any other actor in Krrish.
In an interview with Filmygyan, the Badhaai Ho actor said Rakesh Roshan gave the role to his son as he felt he would be appropriate for the role. While there were rumours that Shahid Kapoor was on the cards to play Krrish but later Hrithik was revealed as a superhero. “Unka paisa hai, unka kaam hai, unki creativity hai, uske andar Hrithik fit hota hai. Mujhey lagta hai ke bada jahalat hai iske andar. Repeat kuch nhi hota. Ye maker ki mehnat hai. (It’s his money, his work, his creativity and for him, Hrithik fits in the said role. I think this is stupidity in saying so. Nothing is repeated; this is the hard work and vision of the maker.)”
Rao further stated that making movies is not social work nor do the makers have any kind of obligations towards actors. He explained his point by giving an example of legendary director Satyajit Ray and said that he used to work with the same set of actors in his movies and the reason is over the years they bonded well. So it’s easier to explain a scene and what the director wants.
Rakesh Roshan launched Hrithik in 2000 with the film Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai and also worked with him in the superhero flick Krrish franchise.
Rumours were rife that Krrish 4 is shelved, but earlier this year, the filmmaker broke his silence and shared that the movie isn’t shelved. It’s just, he doesn’t have the budget the movie requires. In an interview with Gaana, Rakesh Roshan revealed that he has been waiting for years now but he is unable to form a budget. “Picture ka scale bada hai. Scale chota karta hoon toh ek aam picture lagti hai. The world has become smaller. Aaj kal ke jo bacche hain, voh superheroes ki pictures itni dekh chuke hain ki unhe thoda sa bhi kuch fault nazar aayega toh criticise karenge.”
After Dabba Cartel, Rao is gearing up for the release of Dupahiya. The comedy series, co-starring Sparsh Shrivastava, Bhuvan Arora and Renuka Shahane, will start streaming on Prime Video on March 7.
