Popular model and influencer San Rachel, 26, died by suicide in Puducherry on Sunday. She recently got married and was famous for her anti-colourism activism. Rachal succumbed at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research after she was transferred from two other hospitals.
San Rachel reportedly took a huge number of tablets when she visited her father’s residence, as per police sources. Despite being first taken to a government hospital and then transferred to a private hospital, she was ultimately admitted to JIPMER, where she succumbed to death.
Police officials suspect that intense financial pressure and personal stress could have forced her to commit such an extreme act. Officials disclosed that San had mortgaged and sold her jewellery over the past few months to earn money for her professional career. According to reports, she had been looking towards taking money from her father, but he refused on grounds of duty toward his son.

A suicide letter picked up by the police declared that no one was to be blamed for her death. Yet, in view of the delicate situation surrounding her recent marriage, a Tahsildar-level investigation has been ordered to determine whether any marital problems might have led to her mental condition.
She created history by becoming the title holder of Miss Dark Queen Tamil Nadu in 2019 and subsequent to that, she became Miss Puducherry in 2021.
Rachel also competed in international fashion competitions held in London, Germany, and France for India and also actively participated in bringing attention to issues of safety of women.
The police sources indicate that Rachel, who is a newlywed, had been suffering from depression, according to reports. She allegedly took an overdose of sleeping pills on July 5. She was initially taken to the Government Hospital at Puducherry by her father. She was then transferred to a private hospital and subsequently to JIPMER, where she died. A case has been registered and an investigation initiated by Urulaiyanpettai Police.
