Three years of intensive research and dialogue within Hong Kong’s wealth ecosystem have culminated in the official launch of HK4FAMILIES. We move beyond conversation to action, establishing a dedicated NGO to address the most profound challenge facing family firms: not just the transfer of wealth, but the successful transfer of legacy, values, and harmony across generations.

Our observations, detailed in our 2025 publication “FO Ecosystem 2.0” whitepaper, revealed a market at a crossroads. While Hong Kong’s policy drive has attracted financial capital, families often navigate a fragmented family advisory landscape. We witnessed next-generation successors struggling to find their identity and voice amidst immense pressure. We noted a proliferation of services, yet a persistent gap in holistic, trusted advice that looks beyond transactions to the family’s human dynamics. HK4FAMILIES is our direct response. We are not merely about communication or research exchange—we are a practice-driven community anchored on “stewarding Hong Kong’s future through succession.

Our work begins with a fundamental belief: true succession is managed by the successors themselves. To support them, we have established the Family Firm Community: consisting of the NxGen Ambassadors and the GenNx Consortium, a private community built on intimacy, confidentiality and peer learning. This is not a networking forum; it is a curated space where next-generation leaders can engage with the complex, often personal, challenges of stewardship. Here, they learn from family firms’ experiences, visit other family enterprises, and build the resilience required to lead the family capital. Our community recognises that succession is a holistic journey—integrating financial stewardship with the preservation of shared history, values and legacy. Ultimately, success hinges on the “next generation”: how they are nurtured, equipped, and prepared to shoulder and govern the next era of the family.

Yet, families cannot walk this path alone. They require partners, not just contractual services. This leads to our second critical initiative: professionalising family advisory services and deepening the research on the 20 Family Office goals. The prevalent ‘sell-side’ model, focused on products, falls short. In collaboration with leading professional bodies, HK4FAMILIES is building a holistic professional development framework in collaboration with our Supporting Organizations in Hong Kong, ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) Hong Kong, CAIA (Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst) Association, CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) Institute, Hong Kong Investor Relations Association, Hong Kong Mediation Society, Hong Kong Venture Capital & Private Equity Association, Hong Kong Trustees’ Association, the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners Hong Kong, Sustainable Finance Initiative and CUHK Centre for Family Business. Our goal is to cultivate advisors—tacticians who combine technical expertise with deep empathy for family systems. By raising professional standards, we aim to build on the institutional trust of Hong Kong as a premier family office hub.

Strategy, however, must be anchored in evidence, not anecdote. This is why our third pillar commits to advancing global research. Asian family businesses are economic pillars, yet academic understanding of their unique challenges remains underfunded. We are forming university think-tanks to research the rise and fall of Asian families across generations. This research will power our community discussions, drive our professional advisory learning journey, and provide families with data-driven insights for navigating uncertainty. We will translate research into action.

The HK4FAMILIES 2.0 model is intentionally structured. We are developing family members as strategic leaders and professionals as skilled tacticians—concurrently, yet in dedicated streams. This ensures focused development while aligning both groups towards the common goal of sustainable legacy for the future.

Hong Kong has long been a confluence of East and West. The West has family office traditions; the Chinese world has ancestral halls and enduring lineage. We inherit Chinese clan heritage while embracing global innovation. Our emphasis, with Hong Kong as our base, is integrating this confluence to empower succession of Asian-rooted families. The greatest Asian wealth transfer in history is not a distant event—it is unfolding now. HK4FAMILIES exists to integrate Hong Kong’s strengths into a powerful support system. Our mission is two-fold. We honour and manage the legacy built by the founders. Simultaneously, we steer and empower the new legacy being written by the next generation. We bridge the old and the new. We are a gateway to both roots and renewal. This is where families find clarity, next-gens find their purpose, and professionals find the depth of knowledge to serve meaningfully.

We invite family leaders, next-generation members, professional institutions, and academic partners to join us in this mission. We are stepping boldly to cement Hong Kong’s role as the Asian family office hub, starting with families at its heart. Join us.
