NEW DELHI: Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer took to social media platform X to humorously quash viral rumours claiming that U.S. President Donald Trump had brokered a “ceasefire” between him and former England captain Michael Vaughan. The two ex-cricketers have become known for their light-hearted jabs and ongoing banter, which escalated once again during the recently concluded India-England Test series that ended in a 2-2 draw.Jaffer and Vaughan regularly trade witty barbs on social media, especially when India or England suffer defeats. Their playful feud became a recurring subplot throughout the five-match Test series.
“Reports of Donald Trump negotiating a ceasefire between me and @MichaelVaughan are BASELESS and UNTRUE. The social media war will continue. Thank you for your attention to this matter,” Jaffer posted on X, poking fun at the bizarre rumour.
The series itself was a rollercoaster. England started strong with a five-wicket win in Leeds, chasing down a massive target of 371. India struck back in the second Test with a dominant 336-run victory, powered by Shubman Gill’s sensational double-century and another hundred.England edged ahead again with a 22-run win in the third Test, but the fourth match ended in a gritty draw thanks to Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar’s marathon 55.2-over partnership.India sealed a narrow six-run win in the final Test to level the series 2-2, leading to a shared title of the newly named Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
