Chinese EV makers’ budget-friendly models power sales in August


Leapmotor, Xpeng and Galaxy reported sizzling sales, driven by their cheaper models featuring self-driving and in-car entertainment systems similar to Tesla’s vehicles.

Leapmotor, backed by Fiat owner Stellantis, broke its sales record for a fourth consecutive month by delivering 57,066 units, a 13.8 per cent increase from July.

Xpeng delivered 37,709 vehicles last month, up 2.7 per cent from July, rewriting its sales record for a second consecutive month.

Galaxy, a brand owned by Geely Auto, mainland China’s second-largest carmaker, posted a 16.4 per cent month-on-month jump in deliveries, which hit an all-time high of 110,666 units.
