The two new releases at the box office this Friday were Superboys Of Malegoan and Crazxy. As there was less buzz and excitement surrounding the films before their release, both movies started slow at the box office, with each managing openings of less than ₹1 crore on Friday, February 28. While there has been critical acclaim for the two titles, the audience has not been kind to them as the turnout on day 1 remained very poor.
Superboys Of Malegaon is about Nasir Shaikh, a self-taught filmmaker known for making local spoofs of films like Sholay and Superman in a small town in Maharashtra. The film, which features Adarsh Gourav as nasir Shaikh and also stars Shashank Arora, Vineet Kumar Singh and Anuj Singh Duhan, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year.
In India, on its opening day, the film collected ₹45 lakh, becoming one of the lowest-opening Hindi films this year so far. It seems like the box office run of Superboys Of Malegon will wrap up soon.
Sohum Shah’s Tumbbad re-release tasted success and earned over ₹30 crore during its second run in the cinema halls last year. Crazxy, on the other hand, witnessed a slow start as the film managed to earn ₹90 lakh in India on its opening day.
Another reason that the two new releases have not been able to perform better is Chhaava. The Vicky Kaushal starrer film based on the valour of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj released on February 14 and has collected ₹412 crore in 15 days at the domestic box office.
