According to reports, WhatsApp has begun to push out a new version that makes it possible for it to be the iPhone’s default message and calling app.  Apple’s latest update, iOS 18.2, introduces a significant enhancement for iPhone users.

It can set WhatsApp as the default app for calls and messages. This feature, initially announced for European Union users, is now available globally.

How to Set WhatsApp as Default App

To designate WhatsApp as your default calling and messaging app:

Update WhatsApp to version 25.8.74.

Open the Settings app on your iPhone.

Navigate to Apps > Default Apps.

Select Messaging and Calling, then choose WhatsApp from the available options.

Once configured, tapping on phone numbers or message prompts will automatically launch WhatsApp.

Enhanced User Experience

This update offers iPhone users greater flexibility and personalization, allowing seamless integration of preferred communication platforms. By setting WhatsApp as the default, users can streamline their communication processes, especially beneficial for those who predominantly use WhatsApp for daily interactions.

Additional iOS 18.2 Features

Beyond default app customization, iOS 18.2 introduces several enhancements:

Apple Intelligence Writing Tools: Features like writing assistance, proofreading, and text summarization.

Photo Cleanup: An AI-powered tool to remove unwanted objects or people from photos.

Siri Redesign: A refreshed interface with improved natural language processing.

Genmoji and Image Playground: Tools for creating custom emojis and images, initially available to U.S. users. citeturn0news2

Who Can Update this feature?

While this feature enhances user control, it’s essential to note that some older iPhone models may not support iOS 18.2. Users should verify device compatibility before attempting the update.

This development underscores Apple’s commitment to providing users with more customization options, bridging the gap between native and third-party applications, and enhancing the overall iOS experience.
