NEW DELHI: Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto expressed confidence in his team’s fast-bowling attack, led by young speedster Nahid Rana, as they prepare to take on India in their Champions Trophy opener in Dubai on Thursday.
Despite being considered underdogs, Shanto believes Bangladesh’s seamers, including the 22-year-old Nahid, who consistently clocks over 140 kph (87 mph), can challenge any team in the tournament.

“I think we have always struggled with our seam attack, but in the last couple of years, we have developed quality fast bowlers,” Shanto told reporters. “With Nahid Rana and Taskin (Ahmed) bowling the way they are, it makes a huge difference. As a captain, we love to see them bowl fast.”

Nahid, set to play just his fourth ODI, made his international debut last year and has quickly earned a reputation for his pace and accuracy.
“In the last few months, he has bowled really well and fast,” Shanto added. “Seeing him in action motivates our entire bowling unit and helps us put pressure on opponents.”
Bangladesh secured their Champions Trophy spot with a superior net run rate over the Netherlands, while former champions Sri Lanka missed out.
Shanto dismissed the idea of favorites and underdogs in the competition.
“We believe we can beat any team in this tournament,” he said. “If we execute our plans properly, we can defeat anyone.”
India, having refused to travel to Pakistan due to political tensions, will play all their matches in Dubai. If India reach the final, it will be held in Dubai; otherwise, Lahore will host the title clash on March 9.
