Alia Bhatt Or Deepika Padukone? Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Favourite Actress’ Pick Leaves Internet Divided



Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt have worked with ace Bollywood director Imtiaz Ali. However, who did the filmmaker pick as his favourite actress?

Deepika and Imtiaz have worked in the latter’s acclaimed films Love Aaj Kal with Saif Ali Khan and Tamasha, also featuring Ranbir Kapoor. During a roundtable conference with other actresses, it was revealed that Imtiaz has also written Cocktail, featuring Deepika, Diana Penty and Saif. The rom-com is directed by Homi Adajania. During the roundtable, Deepika mentioned that Imtiaz is “lucky charm”, hinting how when they have collaborated, the projects have been commercial and critical hits. “We are each other’s favourite,” the 83 actress added. Love Aaj Kal, Tamasha and Cocktail are some of Deepika’s best performances.

However, netizens dug out another video in which Imitiaz talked about his “favourite actress” and named Alia. They have worked in Highway, which was Alia’s breakout hit. Many commented how Deepika was “delusional” and needed a “reality check” about not being the Jab We Met director’s “favourite”.

In a conversation on the Game Changers podcast, Imtiaz Ali shared that Mahesh Bhatt played an important role in convincing Alia Bhatt to take on the role in Highway.    

Imtiaz continued, “I used to go to her house, and Bhatt Sahab was trying to convince her to do it. She was a bit scared because every scene had her in it. She doubted whether she would be able to do it since it wasn’t an easy film to take on.” On the work front, Alia was most recently seen in Vasan Bala’s Jigra, where she starred alongside Vedang Raina.She will next feature in Alpha with Sharvari Wagh.
