Stashed away in an attic in Maine, US, a painting titled ‘Portrait of a Girl’ was discovered two years ago; it sold for $1.41 million because of its uncanny resemblance to the 17th century Dutch master painter Rembrandt’s oeuvre. Soon, the lingering doubt about its authenticity was solved, with the help of AI.

It was determined, with an 84.7 per cent confidence, that the painting was an original, with the aid of an AI framework developed by Carnegie Mellon University, along with human expertise and other tools.
