The Odyssey has been filming (not secretly anymore) in Greece. Oscar winning director Christopher Nolan was snapped on the set with actor Tom Holland and extras filming for the period set drama. This is the Spider-Man star’s big role after his association with the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a superhero. The movie, described as a “mythic action epic,” is set to release in theatres worldwide on July 17, 2026.
The Odyssey is rooted in ancient mythology and based on and follows the journey of Odysseus as he faces gods, monsters, and challenges while trying to return home after the Trojan War. Matt Damon plays the lead role in the movie, while Holland reportedly plays his son Telemachus and was seen filming in a robe on a boat with Nolan and extras dressed as warriors. Telemachus does feature prominently in Homer’s epic poem as he attempts to search for his father and as he deals with suitors vying for Penelope, his mother.
One image saw Holland in a brown cloak standing with Nolan on a large wooden ship, with the latter sporting a red life jacket. Crew members are visible behind the pair, attending to the ship’s rigging, according to Screenrant. Noticeable was how there was no use of green screens and everything was being filmed on location.
Matt Damon’s look was released in February, marking the commencement of the shoot of The Odyssey. The star-studded cast of the film includes Mia Goth, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, Jon Bernthal and John Leguizamo.
Earlier, photos from the set of SS Rajamouli’s untitled next had also leaked. The unit had been filming in Odisha with lead stars Mahesh babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran when images and videos of the scene being filmed, seemingly without the knowledge of the makers, were shared on social media.
Given the scale of the Hollywood film The Odyssey and SS Rajamouli’s SSMB29, no movie is safe from leaks, or as it seems.
