Ranya Rao Gold Smuggling Case: The Kannada actress is in judicial custody over her involvement in the high-profile gold smuggling case. Her bail petition was heard in the Sessions court today, March 17. The court has adjourned the case for March 19 and has directed the DRI’s counsel to file objections by then. Further proceedings will continue after the submission.

For the uninitiated, Ranya Rao was arrested from the Bengaluru International Airport on March 3 for the possession of 14.2 kg gold worth ₹12.56 crore. She arrived in India from Dubai and was alleged to be a part of a high-profile gold smuggling. During her custody, the actress confessed to the charges against her. She told the officials in detail how she received a call from an unknown number and asked her to smuggle gold from Dubai. She further revealed that she learned the trick of smuggling from a YouTube video.
Ranya Rao alleges custodial torture by the DRI officials
In her petition, she further alleged that the DRI officers threatened to expose her father’s identity if she refused to comply. Ranya is the step daughter of Director General of Police (DGP) Ramchandra Rao, who was sent on compulsory leave with immediate effect by the Karnataka State Government.
