Tumbbad 2: More Than 12 Times The Budget Of Predecessor For Sohum Shah Starrer Sequel? Here’s All You Need To Know

Tumbbad sequel is in the works, even though the plans to expand the horror universe will have to go on without director Rahi Anil Barve. Adesh Prasad and actor-producer Sohum Shah have been working on the upcoming part of the film and reportedly, a hefty sum is being funneled into the project by a big studio. This marks a departure from how the first movie (2018) faced numerous budget-related hurdles before its release.

During its making over six years, Tumbbad saw many producers backing out from the project, only for Sohum to step in as one of the financiers. Now, with the commercial success the film enjoyed during its re-release last year, hopes for the sequel have risen substantially. Reportedly, the first installment was made on a modest budget of ₹15 crore.

Reportedly, a big production house is ready to invest ₹100 crore in the making of Tumbbad 2. The story for the sequel is said to have been locked and the pre-production has also begun. The movie is expected to go on floors later this year, for 2026 release in theatres worldwide.

Last year during its re-release in cinema halls, Tumbbad director Rahi Anil Barve had clarified his intent about moving on with his other projects as he opted out of Tumbbad 2. He shared that he will work on his other two projects instead, tentatively titled Pahadpangira — about dawn of feminism and satipratha — and Pakshitirtha.

Apart from this, Barve is working on two new web series — Gulkanda Tales and Raktabramhand.

Sohum, on the other hand, has seen through the release of his crime thriller Crazxy. He is now expected to work towards the short and release of Tumbbad 2. Official updates about the much-hyped sequel are yet to come to light.
