A 28-year-old man has been detained on suspicion of murdering former UK politician Ann Widdecombe as detectives continue investigating the death of the 78-year-old at her home in Devon, the Guardian reported.Devon and Cornwall Police said the suspect was arrested at an address in South Yorkshire on Saturday evening. He remains in police custody. The arrest was carried out with assistance from Counter Terrorism Policing North East and South Yorkshire Police. Authorities said there is still no evidence to suggest the case is linked to terrorism, and Devon and Cornwall Police continue to lead the investigation.Police believe Widdecombe was assaulted at around 12.30pm on Wednesday and said she may have been dead for almost a day before her body was discovered by ambulance crews at her bungalow in Haytor at about 11.40am on Thursday. The latest arrest comes after a 26-year-old man detained in Newton Abbot on Friday was released without charge and has been eliminated from the investigation.Widdecombe’s death was announced by her management team on Friday. Following initial inquiries, counter-terrorism officers assessed the case before ruling out a politically motivated attack.Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman said detectives are withholding further investigative details, including potential suspect descriptions and CCTV footage, to avoid compromising the inquiry or affecting future lines of investigation.
