Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani has been named a founding member of the newly launched AI for Good Global Commission, joining an influential group of 44 global leaders tasked with shaping the future of artificial intelligence through responsible governance, digital inclusion and international collaboration.
Ambani is among three prominent Indian business leaders selected for the high-level commission, alongside Bharti Enterprises Founder and Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal and ArcelorMittal Executive Chairman Lakshmi N. Mittal. The commission brings together policymakers, technology executives and industry leaders to develop practical pathways for building trust in AI while expanding access to the technology across the world.
The global body also includes some of the biggest names in technology, including Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, NVIDIA Founder and CEO Jensen Huang, Microsoft Vice Chair and President Brad Smith, and Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon. The initiative seeks to bridge the gap between governments and the private sector in framing policies for the responsible deployment of artificial intelligence.
The commission was unveiled by Rwanda President Paul Kagame, Salesforce Chair and CEO Marc Benioff, and International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin. Its primary objective is to ensure developing economies are not left behind as AI adoption accelerates, while preventing technology-driven inequalities from widening.
According to the ITU, nearly one-fourth of the world’s population remains disconnected from digital technologies, with around 2.2 billion people still offline. The commission aims to address these gaps by promoting inclusive access to AI and encouraging its use in solving global challenges rather than exacerbating existing disparities.
The commission will hold its inaugural meeting during the AI for Good Global Summit 2026 in Geneva from July 7 to July 10. The event will be held as part of Digital Week and will also feature the first UN-mandated Global Dialogue on AI Governance and the WSIS Forum 2026.
