India’s gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections rose 13.9 per cent year-on-year to Rs 1,94,812 crore in June, inching closer to the Rs 2 lakh crore milestone as robust import tax collections offset relatively moderate growth in domestic revenues.
Gross domestic GST revenue stood at Rs 1,34,774 crore, up 6.5 per cent from a year ago. GST collections from imports, however, surged 34.6 per cent to Rs 60,038 crore, providing the biggest boost to the overall monthly mop-up.
After accounting for refunds, the government’s net GST revenue increased 11.2 per cent to Rs 1,62,377 crore in June, compared with Rs 1,45,984 crore in the corresponding month last year.
Total refunds issued during the month rose 29.1 per cent year-on-year to Rs 32,436 crore, indicating faster processing of claims. Domestic refunds climbed 42.9 per cent to Rs 17,767 crore, while export-related GST refunds through ICEGATE increased 15.6 per cent to Rs 14,669 crore.
During the first quarter of FY27 (April-June), gross GST collections reached Rs 6.32 lakh crore, registering 8.4 per cent growth over Rs 5.83 lakh crore collected in the same period last year. Net GST revenue for the quarter rose 7.1 per cent to Rs 5.40 lakh crore.
Among the states, Uttar Pradesh recorded one of the strongest performances among major economies with 19 per cent growth in domestic GST collections, followed by Assam at 17 per cent, Punjab at 14 per cent and Gujarat at 12 per cent. Maharashtra posted 9 per cent growth, Karnataka 10 per cent, Telangana 11 per cent and Kerala 11 per cent. In contrast, Tamil Nadu registered a 2 per cent decline, while Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh reported a 5 per cent fall each.
