Ranya Rao’s Father DGP Ramachandra Rao Reacts To Daughter’s Arrest In Smuggling 14.8 Kg Gold: No Black Mark In My Career

Ranya Rao, a Sandalwood actress, was arrested a few days ago for smuggling gold in India from Dubai. During the investigation it was reported that she is the stepdaughter of senior IPS officer Dr K Ramachandra Rao, Director-General of Police (Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation). Now, her father has reacted to her arrest and shared that he is devasted.

Ranya was arrested at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru upon arrival from Dubai on an Emirates flight on Monday night. She was caught with 14.8 kg of gold. She has been remanded in 14-day judicial custody.

What did Ranya Rao’s father DGP K Ramachandra Rao say about his stepdaughter’s arrest?

Speaking to ANI on Wednesday, March 5,  Ramachandra Rao has distanced himself from his daughter’s controversy and said there is no black mark on his career. “I was also shocked and devastated when such an incident came to my notice through the media, I was not aware of any of these things, and like any other father I was also shocked. She is not living with us, she is living separately with her husband, there must be some problem between them due to some family issues,” he continued.

He further stated that he got to know about the arrest through media reports. “Anyway, the law will do its job, there is no black mark in my career. I don’t want to say anything more,” he added.

Ranya had flown in from Dubai and was about to clear her check-in when the team DRI approached and arrested her. The 33-year-old actress came under the radar when she travelled four times to Dubai in 15 days. This added suspicion and they launched a target operation to arrest her, per PTI. Whereas, ANI states that the DRI team was tipped off about the actress’ alleged involvement in smuggling gold.

The initial investigation revealed that Ranya wore a significant amount of gold and hid the gild bars in her clothing. “Upon examination, gold bars weighing 14.2 kg were found ingeniously concealed on person. The contraband, valued at Rs 12.56 crore was seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962,” a DRI statement said. During questioning, Ranya claimed that her visit to Dubai was for business purposes, per ANI.
