CM Fadnavis Watches Chhaava, Honours Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s Sacrifice For Swarajya Amid Azmi’s Aurangzeb Remark Row

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis praised the period drama Chhaava, which tells the inspiring saga of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. After watching the film during the screening organised for MLAs and MLCs in Mumbai, he congratulated the moviemakers for portraying the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.

The film screening was held amid row over suspended Samajwadi Party MLA  Abu Azmi’s remarks eulogising Aurangzeb. Chhaava movie depicts how Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj defended the Deccan region from the conquest of the Mughals before he was captured, brutally tortured and killed by Aurangzeb.

After watching Chhaava with his team, Fadnavis said, “A very beautiful movie has been made. Our colleague minister, Aditi Tatkare, has organised this screening today for all MLAs and MLCs…Those who wrote history did a lot of injustice to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, but through this movie, his valour, bravery, cleverness, intelligence, knowledge, all these aspects of his life are coming in front of the public. And the way Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj continuously protected Swarajya after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, his sacrifice is coming in front of the people through this. I would like to congratulate the producers of this film and the entire team.”

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Police have started an investigation into a case against Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Asim Azmi over his remarks eulogising Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. His comments  praising Mughal emperor Aurangzeb rocked the Maharashtra legislature on Tuesday.

Azmi referred to Aurangzeb as an able administrator who built temples. Despite his apology, he was suspended from the Assembly during the Budget session.
