NEW DELHI: Cricket seems to run in the Sooryavanshi family. Days after making headlines with a century in a practice match, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s younger brother Ashirvad has once again impressed with the bat, smashing a brilliant 168 off just 119 balls in another dominant display. The 10-year-old, who only started playing cricket six months ago, represented Rishav XI in a practice match and lit up the contest with an attacking knock that featured 19 fours and six sixes. He scored at a strike rate of 141.18 and continued to showcase the fearless approach that has already earned him attention in local cricket circles. His latest hundred comes shortly after he announced himself with a sparkling 103 off 87 balls in his debut match for Cricket Academy Tajpur. That innings included 20 boundaries and a six, underlining his natural stroke-making ability. The youngster’s rapid rise has not gone unnoticed. Vaibhav, currently in Ireland with the Indian team for the T20I series, shared an Instagram story celebrating his younger brother’s latest achievement.

Ashirvad’s story is particularly remarkable because he has taken up cricket only recently. Despite having less than a year of formal training, he has already produced multiple big scores. While comparisons with Vaibhav are inevitable, the two brothers have different styles. Vaibhav is a left-handed batter who can also bowl spin, whereas Ashirvad bats right-handed and bowls right-arm medium pace. The youngster sees himself as an all-rounder and is beginning to carve out his own identity on the cricket field.
