American builders made houses with puja room, spice kitchen for Indians; Trump aide says 'completely end H-1B visa'
House prices fall in Texas, coinciding with the exodus of Indian-origin people.

Republican Brandon Gill, who rarely hides his hatred for immigrants, including Indians, despite being married to Indian-origin Danielle D’Souza, reacted to a report on the housing market decline in Texas owing to President Donald Trump’s crackdown on H-1B visa abuse. Bloomberg recently reported on this housing crisis, as Indian-Americans who charged the market during the pandemic, deciding to settle down in the US, have now been considering leaving America.New York Post reported that CBRE Group, a real estate firm, confirmed that H-1B workers brought the housing wave in the US between 2018 and today, more than any other factor. But now, as Indian buyers are receding from the market, the prices are coming down. In Collin County, home prices fell nearly 9% year-over-year as of February, more than double the 4% drop recorded across the broader Dallas-Fort Worth metro, according to Redfin data.Reacting to the New York Post report, Brandon Gill said: ‘Now time to completely end H1B visas.”

Here are some of the astounding figures about Indian-Americans in the US

  • Collin and Denton counties became the fastest-growing in the nation among those with a population of at least 1 million, census data shows.
  • Collin County’s Indian-born population averaged more than 116,000 residents annually in the five years through 2024, up sharply from 70,000 in the preceding five-year period.
  • In Frisco alone, a city of 235,000 residents, the share of Indian residents ballooned from about 6% in the early 2010s to nearly 20% by the mid-2020s, census figures show.

Such was the demand for houses from Indian-Americans that builders tailored homes to this clientele. One North Texas builder, Zach Schneider of Tradition Homes, designed model homes with north-facing “puja” rooms for Hindu prayer and optional “spice kitchens” for buyers from India.
