Vinod Kambli's wife Andrea makes big divorce revelation, says 'I realised he'd be helpless'

NEW DELHI: Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli has once again found himself in the spotlight, this time due to revelations made by his wife, Andrea Hewitt.
In a recent podcast interview with journalist Suryanshi Pandey, Hewitt provided an in-depth look into their personal life, shedding light on the challenges the couple faced, particularly Kambli’s struggles with alcohol addiction.
Hewitt, a former model, candidly discussed the strained relationship she shared with the left-handed batter and how she overcame the obstacles that arose. According to her, Kambli’s battle with alcoholism was a significant hurdle, leading him to undergo rehabilitation at least 14 times.

During the podcast, Hewitt revealed that she had contemplated divorce at one point, even going as far as filing for it.
“I once thought about it (separating). But I realised that he would be helpless if I leave him. He is like a child, and that hurts me. It makes me feel worried. I would not even leave a friend, and he is obviously more than that,” Hewitt said.
Hewitt shared the emotional turmoil she experienced, recounting moments when she would walk away from the situation but then worry about Kambli’s well-being, prompting her to return and check on him.
“I remember there were moments when I would just walk away. But then I would be worried: Has he eaten or not? Is he on the bed properly? Is he okay? Then I had to check on him, and I would understand that he needed me,” she added.
The couple’s 17-year marriage reached a turning point in February 2023 when Hewitt approached the police to file a complaint against Kambli, accusing him of domestic abuse.

The incident involved Kambli allegedly throwing a cooking pan handle at her while intoxicated, resulting in a head injury for Hewitt.
Despite the challenges, Hewitt expressed admiration for her son Jesus Christiano Kambli’s understanding of the situation.
She praised his ability to comprehend the emotions she was experiencing and the support he provided during the difficult times when they were caught in Kambli’s health struggles.
“My son Cristiano understood everything, he didn’t bother me at all, he understood all the emotions on my face,” she explained.
