Ranveer Singh made a special place in millions of hearts with his hard-hitting performances. Be it Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela, Bajirao Mastani or Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, the actor proved his mettle as an actor. But, seems like Paresh Rawal has different train of thought. An old clip of the veteran actor raising questions about Ranveer’s method acting for Padmaavat has gone viral.

A clip was shared by a Reddit user in which Paresh Rawal was asked about Ranveer Singh’s acting procedure in Padmaavat. He said, “Agar aap aisa karte ho na bhaiya toh ye galat tarika hain. Aap ke andar saakshi bhaav hona chahiye. Accha mujhe ek baat bataiye ap jitna bhi d***u pee lo maa ya biwi ke palang pe jaake hi so jaate ho. Woh saakshi bhav hain na. Ye galat hain ki main role mein ghus gaya tha… toh kisi ko chaku maar doge aap”.
Netizens had mixed reaction to this and took to comment section to share their views. Some agreed with Paresh Rawal while same took support of Ranveer Singh. One user wrote, “Ranveer exaggerated, it’s not only Paresh Rawal even Jim Sarbh had passed some comment right? Ranveer just wanted some attention & he blabbered, I always knew it was a lie”. Another user wrote, “Everyone has a different process. Vicky and Askhay Khanna refused to meet each beforehand and finally met in costume on shoot day”.

In an old interview with The Quint, Jim Sarbh shared his opinions on method acting. The actor, without referring to anyone, noted that some actors ‘over-exaggerate’ the process. He said, “There are all those actors who are like ‘You know, I was so stuck in my character that I had to get mental therapy for weeks after.’ I was like ‘Shut up bro. You didn’t even know your lines on the day, what nonsense.” His comments were linked with Ranveer Singh’s previous confession of locking himself inside a house to prepare for the film Padmaavat. However, he later clarified that his comments were not directed at Ranveer Singh.
In an interaction with Siddharth Kannan, Murder 2 actor Prashant Narayanan too commented on Ranveer Singh’s acting. He said, “Woh jooth bol raha hai kyunki woh aisa koi mind-blowing actor nahin hai jahan pe ya woh aisa koi mind blowing role nahi hai ki jahan pe aapko itna karna pad raha hai. Nahi bhai. Tu apna set pe aa. Tera makeup hoiga acche se. Tu baas dil se kam kar.” During the promotios of the film, Ranveer had said, “I took 21 days and locked myself up in my Goregaon house. I was completely isolated. I kind of isolated myself, marinated into the character because I can’t relate to Alauddin Khilji, I can’t relate to that level of manipulativeness, greed, and ambition. I had to tap into dark experiences but his worldview is not something I can relate to also.”
For the unversed, Padmaavat was released on January 25, 2018. Helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, it became the highest grossing film of that year. The historical drama starred Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Jim Sarbh, Aditi Rao Hydari and Anupriya Goenka among others. Ranveer had portayed the role of Sultan Alauddin Khilji and was loved by netizens for his performance.
This was the third time Ranveer and Deepika collaborated with Bhansali. The two had previously worked with the filmmaker in films such as Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela in 2013 and Bajirao Mastani in 2015.
