Turkey eyes multiple nuclear deals, in talks with South Korea, Canada, China, Russia

Turkey is in talks with South Korea, Canada, China and Russia to develop new nuclear power capacity, energy minister Alparslan Bayraktar said on Wednesday, as Ankara pushes to expand its energy mix.Speaking to NTV, Bayraktar said Turkey plans to build four nuclear reactors in the northern province of Sinop and another four in the Thrace region, marking a major step in the country’s long-term energy strategy.Turkey has not yet signed any agreements, with the government evaluating proposals from multiple countries before making a final decision.“We would choose the project offering the most competitive terms and the greatest contribution to localisation,” Bayraktar said in the interview. The planned expansion comes as Turkey seeks to reduce its dependence on energy imports and strengthen domestic capacity through localisation requirements tied to major infrastructure projects.
