Samay Raina’s Cryptic Post For ‘Members Only’ Amid India’s Got Latent Controversy

Samay Raina is embroiled in the controversy surrounding his show India’s Got Latent. The Comedian is expected to appear before the Maharashtra Cyber Cell and National Commission for Women (NCW) to record his statement in connection to a lewd remark in his now-deleted comedy show. Amid this chaos, Samay has dropped the first post on his YouTube channel after deleting all the videos of India’s Got Latent. However, there is a catch not everyone can see his post.

The comedian has dropped a post exclusively for his YouTube channel’s subscribers. He hasn’t written anything and has simply dropped two emoticons – heart and hug – which seemingly means he is thanking for the support. It has reportedly garnered over 8000 likes.

Samay has been summoned for the second time by Maharashtra Cyber Cell to record his statement. They have asked him to come on February 24 but he requested them to extend his appearance date to March as his show is concluding next month. However, the authorities rejected his plea.

However, NCW agreed and asked him to appear on March 11 as he is travelling in the US.

Amid the ongoing controversy, the government has issued new guidelines for OTT platforms discussed during a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology and Communications, attended by MIB Secretary Sanjay Jaju. This Code of Ethics mandates that platforms must not share any content prohibited by law. They should classify content based on age, enforce access controls for A-rated content, and follow other similar measures.

“In view of the above, it is advised that the OTT platforms comply with the applicable laws and the Code of Ethics outlined in the IT Rules, 2021, when publishing content on their platforms. This includes stricter adherence to the age-based classification of content prescribed under the Code of Ethics. Additionally, Self-regulatory Bodies of OTT platforms are urged to take proactive measures against any violations of the Code of Ethics by these platforms,” the advisory stated.

During the IT committee meeting on February 13, the committee sent a communication to MIB secretary Sanjay Jaju, requesting the ministry to provide a note on necessary amendments to address controversial content.
