NEW DELHI: The Gulf Giants displayed remarkable resilience and determination to secure a thrilling two-wicket victory over the MI Emirates in a nail-biting encounter at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, during Season 3 of the ILT20.
Despite facing adversity at various stages of the match, the Gulf Giants’ lower-order batters displayed nerves of steel to guide their team across the finish line.
After being put in to bat first, the MI Emirates got off to a slow start, losing early wickets. However, Tom Banton‘s half-century and Kieron Pollard‘s cameo propelled them to a competitive total of 151/6 in their allotted 20 overs.

In their chase, the Gulf Giants encountered early setbacks, losing their openers cheaply. Tom Alsop and Gerhard Erasmus steadied the ship with a crucial 65-run partnership, but the dismissals of Alsop and Erasmus put the Gulf Giants under pressure once again.
The MI Emirates bowlers, led by Muhammad Rohid Khan and Alzarri Joseph, kept chipping away at the Gulf Giants’ batting lineup, leaving them in a precarious position. However, Tom Curran and Mark Adair‘s crucial contributions brought the Gulf Giants within striking distance of the target.
In a dramatic finale, Aayan Khan’s unbeaten 11 off six deliveries, coupled with Curran and Muhammad Zuhaib’s efforts, guided the Gulf Giants to a remarkable victory off the final delivery of the match.
Player of the match, Mark Adair said, “It was just about getting the basics right again. Tom Curran came in and shared his experience, and that helped in the crucial moments.”
MI Emirates’ captain Nicholas Pooran said, “It was a tough one today, we weren’t disciplined enough, and paid the price as a team.”

The win propelled the Gulf Giants to fifth place on the points table, keeping their hopes alive in the tournament.
The match showcased the Gulf Giants’ ability to bounce back from adversity and their unwavering determination to secure victory, even in the face of immense pressure.
Their lower-order batters’ composure and resilience were instrumental in their triumph, highlighting the depth and character of the team.
