'HR withdrew my H-1B visa': Redditor narrates ordeal since October; Internet says it'gives us hope'

A Redditor’s H-1B ordeal turned into hopes for many on the Internet as people said the H-1B sob story gives Americans hope that the system is correcting itself. The Redditor made a long post on how the job situation worsened in a matter of months, beginning from September/October to December. The Redditor claimed to be an international student on OPT who is transitioning to an H-1B visa via the company. The Redditor, in 2024, got a job as Sales Enablement Coordinator, which was aligned with a master’s degree in marketing. In April 2025, the individual was informed that the company would petition for H-1B visa. “Everything was set for me to receive the H-1B visa in around November of this year. I was striving as Sales Enablement Coordinator, creating colleterals, launching internal intranet for the team, and preparing our reps for conferences,” the post read.

The Reddit post on H-1B ordeal went viral but for a different reason.

The company then underwent a lot of management changes and the person’s role was changed to a new position under the title of Marketing Coordinator. “This transition to the new role was completed in July 2025 within a day notice. There was no transitonal plans, nor was there any clear instructions to help me navigate this new role. There was also no job description and responsibility. Being a proactive person myself, I was juggling two roles at the same time as Marketing Coordinator and as Sales Enablement Coordinator,” the individual wrote adding that the new position effectively meant a demotion but at least the job was there. In December 2025, the HR told the person that their H-1B petition had to be withdrawn, as there is a high chance of rejection, as the role does not need an H-1B. “They made the decision to withdraw my application for the H-1B visa barring risk of rejection because the new role was “too general” to be qualified for the H-1B visa. I was then informed that my last day is in 2 weeks, right before Christmas. If I could not find my jobs within the 60 days of my last day, I will have to leave the U.S for good,” the person wrote.

‘Why the hate against H-1B’: How Reddit reacted

  • The sob story, surprisingly, became a reason for the Internet to celebrate as social media users were anonymous that the marketing role never needed an H-1B; not even a college degree.
  • “And people are wondering why the hate against H-1Bs,” one wrote.
  • “Exactly, gives us hope that the system is correcting itself,” another wrote.
  • “If this post is real then it is an almost cartoonishly perfect example of how the system is being misused by corporations,” a third user wrote.
