Best-ever finish! India sign off record-breaking Shooting World Cup Final campaign with six medals

India wrapped up their most successful ISSF World Cup Final campaign with six medals, even as Zorawar Singh Sandhu finished seventh in the men’s trap final on the concluding day in Doha. Competing at the Lusail Shooting Complex, Zorawar, a World Championship bronze medallist, was the country’s only participant in the final shotgun event. He entered the eight-shooter final — expanded from six under the new ISSF format — after scoring 119 in qualification to place sixth. But in the 30-shot title round, he managed seven hits from his first 10 targets and was eliminated early, bowing out alongside Italy’s Giovanni Pellielo. China ended the tournament as the top nation with four golds and nine medals overall. The United States secured double gold in men’s trap and skeet to finish third, with India taking second place. India’s standout performances included Simranpreet Kaur Brar’s brilliant gold in the women’s 25m pistol and Suruchi Phogat’s triumphant return to the podium with gold in the women’s 10m air pistol. The country also celebrated its first-ever double podium at a World Cup Final when Sainyam picked up one of India’s three silver medals. Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar (men’s 50m rifle 3 positions) and Anish Bhanwala (men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol) were the other silver medallists, while reigning world champion Samrat Rana earned India’s lone bronze in the men’s 10m air pistol, rounding off a historic outing for the shooting contingent.
