Jamaican reggae legend Jimmy Cliff has died at the age of 81.The announcement was shared on social media by his wife, Latifa, who revealed that he passed away after a seizure and pneumonia. She wrote, “It’s with profound sadness that I share that my husband, Jimmy Cliff, has crossed over due to a seizure followed by pneumonia.”Latifa continued, “I am thankful for his family, friends, fellow artists and coworkers who have shared his journey with him. To all his fans around the world, please know that your support was his strength throughout his whole career.”Born James Chambers in 1944, Cliff adopted the stage name Jimmy Cliff when he moved to Kingston as a teenager and began pursuing music in the heart of Jamaica’s capital. Over the decades, he became one of the most influential figures in reggae, carrying its sound across borders.Among his most celebrated works are “You Can Get It If You Really Want” and his acclaimed rendition of Johnny Nash’s “I Can See Clearly Now,” a cover that Cliff transformed into a defining piece of his legacy.
