England fast bowler Chris Woakes has retired from international cricket following indications from the national team management that he was not part of future plans. His final appearance for England came in a match against India at the Oval, where he had to bat with one arm due to a dislocated shoulder sustained while fielding. The match ended in India’s favor by six runs, bringing the series to 2-2.The shoulder injury prevented Woakes from being considered for the upcoming Ashes series in Australia. At 36 years old, this effectively marked the end of his international career.England and Wales Cricket Board’s managing director of men’s cricket, Rob Key, recently suggested that Woakes would likely not play for England again.“The moment has come, and I’ve decided that the time is right for me to retire from international cricket. Playing for England was something I aspired to do since I was a kid dreaming in the back garden, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have lived out those dreams,” Woakes saidThroughout his career, Woakes achieved impressive statistics, claiming 192 wickets in 62 Test matches while also contributing with the bat, scoring over 2,000 runs at an average exceeding 25.England is scheduled to face Australia in a five-Test Ashes series, with the opening match set for November 21 in Perth.
