Massive blow! India pacer suffers freak injury; doubt for women's ODI World Cup

India’s World Cup preparations suffered a setback on Thursday after pacer Arundhati Reddy was wheelchaired off the field during the warm-up match against England in Bengaluru. The incident occurred in Reddy’s follow-through while bowling to England captain Heather Knight. Attempting to take a return catch, she landed awkwardly on her left leg and collapsed on the ground. Medical staff rushed in to assist her, but she had to be taken off on a wheelchair. Before the injury, Reddy had given India an early breakthrough by dismissing opener Amy Jones. The 27-year-old seamer has become an important part of India’s pace attack since her debut last year. In 11 ODIs, she has picked up 15 wickets at an average of 32.66, with best figures of 4 for 26. She also impressed against Australia recently, taking four wickets across two matches, including a three-wicket haul in Delhi. This year, she has claimed seven wickets in six ODIs.Watch her injury here Her availability for the upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup now remains in doubt, with the extent of the injury yet to be confirmed. India, two-time finalists in 2005 and 2017, are chasing their maiden World Cup title on home soil. They begin their campaign against Sri Lanka in Guwahati on September 30.
