Huawei’s Ren Zhengfei, Dongfeng Motor’s Yang Qing discuss deeper collaboration in EVs

The meeting on Monday between Ren, 80, and Yang involved an exchange of “views on industry competition dynamics and corporate mechanism innovation”, according to a statement released on Tuesday by Dongfeng – founded in 1969 and based in Wuhan, the capital of central Hubei province.

During their discussion, Ren said the fundamental principle of the automotive industry was to build quality vehicles, with safety as the paramount priority. Huawei deputy chairman Eric Xu Zhijun, who serves as the privately held company’s rotating chairman from April to September, also attended the meeting.

The conversation between Xu and Yang, meanwhile, focused on “advancing comprehensive strategic cooperation, corporate management and talent development”.

The meeting reflected the two companies’ decision in May to elevate their partnership into a strategic collaboration.
