Samsung releases ‘critical’ Galaxy update – check your phone and download it now

If you have a Samsung Galaxy phone in your pocket, you need to head straight to the settings and download the latest system software. The Korean technology firm has just pushed out a September patch which fixes over 11 issues currently plaguing devices. If that wasn’t bad enough, one of the bugs has been given a ‘critical’ rating and must definitely not be ignored.

That’s because it appears hackers have already discovered the flaw and are using it to attack people across the globe.

“Severity: Critical,” Samsung warned.

“Out-of-bounds Write in libimagecodec.quram.so prior to SMR Sep-2025 Release 1 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code.

“Samsung was notified that an exploit for this issue has existed in the wild.”

For those not in the know, executing arbitrary code can lead to cyber crooks being able to install malware or gain privileges on a device. This can then be used to steal data and spy on those affected.

It’s a serious issue, and that’s why Samsung has rushed so quickly to fix things. If you own a new Galaxy it’s recommended you intsall the latest patch as soon as possible.

Here are all the phones that currently receive monthly updates.

Galaxy Z Fold4 • Galaxy Z Flip4 • Galaxy Z Fold5 • Galaxy Z Flip5 • Galaxy Z Fold6

To install a software update on your Samsung Galaxy phone, go to Setting, then tap on Software update, select Download and install.

It’s always a good idea to make sure your battery is adequately charged before starting the update process.

“At Samsung, we take security and privacy issues very seriously and we are doing our best to respond as quickly as possible,” the company added.

“Securing your device and maintaining the trust you place in us is our top priority.”
