‘Highlander’ pushed to 2026 after Henry Cavill gets injured

Henry Cavill’s upcoming film ‘Highlander’, which was set to go into production in the coming weeks, will now be pushed to 2026 after the actor suffered an injury during pre-production.

Helmed by Chad Stahelski of ‘John Wick’ fame, the long-gestating project is a remake of the 1980s classic about immortal warriors.

Cavill, 42, stars in the titular role of MacLeod, alongside Russell Crowe as Ramirez and Dave Bautista as the savage warrior named The Kurgen.

Cavill has been training for months for the project, teasing at CinemaCon in 2024: “If you think you’ve seen me do sword work before, you haven’t seen anything yet.”

The film’s screenplay has been written by John Wick: Chapter 4’ scribe Michael Finch, and is produced by UA’s Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt alongside Neal H. Moritz, Stahelski’s 87Eleven Entertainment, Josh Davis of Davis Panzer Productions and Louise Rosner.

The original ‘Highlander’ film was released in 1986 and starred Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, a Medieval Scottish Highlander who discovers he is an immortal warrior.

Cavill, who rose to global fame playing Superman in Zack Snyder’s DC movies, is looking to ‘Highlander’ to be a potential franchise starter.
