Sky and BT broadband rival offers a price competitors can’t match

If you’re fed up with your expensive broadband plan that doesn’t deliver fast enough speeds for your liking, you could kill two birds with one stone by switching your provider and opting for a package that is cheaper and offers a much faster connection.

That seems possible thanks to a limited time offer we’ve spotted from Community Fibre, a broadband provider that serves the whole of London and its boroughs.

Until 11:59pm on Sunday September 7, you can sign up to Community Fibre’s incredibly fast 2Gbps full fibre broadband plan for the price of its half-speed 1Gbps plan at just £25 per month.

To be clear, 1Gbps is already incredibly fast for a fibre broadband connection. 2Gbps is blisteringly speedy, and would be best suited to a household who has several people vying for a fast broadband connection at all hours of the day, especially if those people are downloading large files, online gaming, streaming video or constantly on video calls.

Because of the way broadband packages are sold, annoyingly, the advertised speed is not the average speed you’ll actually get 2Gbps (which is 2,000Mbps) is only the top possible connection speed – this package will deliver between 500-800Mbps on average, according to Community Fibre.

This sort of advertising is commonplace in the broadband market.

“Our headline speeds are for a single wired (ethernet) connection to the router we provide,” Community Fibre explains. “WiFi is typically slower than a wired connection and our WiFi speeds are what you can expect to achieve when in the same room as the router. Your speed will be divided and shared between all the connected devices, so it’s best to have a higher speed for multi-user households.”

The offer is for a 24-month contract, so make sure you’ll be able to afford the payments over two years. This also includes annual price rises of £2 every April, so it’ll cost you £27 per month from April 2026 and then £29 per month from April 2027.

Even with those rises, this 2Gbps plan is better priced than its much larger rivals. Sky offers a £27 per month contract for speeds of just 67Mbps, a paltry top speed compared to even the average speeds Community Fibre offers of 500-800Mbps.

To get Virgin Media’s 1,130Mbps speeds you need to pay £30.99 per month, still more than Community Fibre, while BT’s 900Mbps speeds are currently £35.99 per month. All competitors also include annual price rises.

So, if you live in London and want to upgrade your broadband while actually saving money over the next two years, this could be the deal for you.
